Thank you for visiting NFB-NEWSLINE KENTUCKY

A Project of the National Federation of the Blind of Kentucky

Mission

The mission of NFB-NEWSLINE® KENTUCKY is to provide the accessible electronic information audio reading service and advance independence for thousands of eligible Kentuckians.

The National Federation of the Blind of Kentucky service delivery system focuses on four primary components:

Content Development: Staff and volunteers continually seek the collaboration of community publications’ owners and editors to join with NFB-NEWSLINE KENTUCKY to make local news and magazines available to friends and neighbors who cannot enjoy the print editions.

Promoting Subscriptions: When Kentuckians who are subscribed to NFB-NEWSLINE® begin to talk to family and friends about local news articles encountered on the audio information service, others who do not subscribe to the publication will often need to PURCHASE the edition to read more .

Technical Assistance: Dedicated personnel are available daily to retrieve User Identification Codes when the need arises, work one-on-one to overcome obstacles in using the menu driven system, research alternative methods and adapted equipment to access the service, provide training on the assistive technology needed for access, assist in locating certain content and/or features on the automated system, and assist in other areas to maximize the use of the audio information service.

Outreach: Staff and volunteers promote the service across the Commonwealth through conferences, exhibits, and expos highlighting programs and services for people with disabilities, by collaborating with a variety of Internet websites and organization listservs, demonstrations, various media outlets, and PSAs and other measures as presented.

NFB-NEWSLINE® KENTUCKY is a FREE service and one of the best gifts to give family and friends who cannot use conventional print! Visit the link How to Subscribe on-line application to get started.

NFB-NEWSLINE® KENTUCKY is a nonprofit project of the National Federation of the Blind of Kentucky, which is a nonprofit agency advocating for the rights of the visually impaired to advance their independence through education, information and training.

Funding must exist, however, to maintain the service, advance the efficiency of the service, maximize the potential of the service to meet the informational needs of those eligible for the service, and pay operational expenses.
